Upon registering, your name will be added to an email list of potential volunteer participants for economic decision making experiments. If, from the information provided at the time of registration, you are found to fit the criterion required for a particular experiment, you will receive an email inviting you to participate. Follow the link provided in the email you receive to register for an experiment session you are able to attend.

You may only participate once in a given series of experiment, as repeated participation may skew the results.

Experiments often fill up quickly, so please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your experiment sessions listed start time to ensure that you are able to participate. If you have never participated in an experiment with the School of Information before, be sure to give yourself enough time to locate our lab building at North Quad (105 South State Street), as many subjects have some difficulty finding it (for instructions on how to get to the lab, visit our location page) . Subjects who arrive after an experiment session has filled but within 5 minutes of the announced start of the session will be awarded a show-up payments of $5 . If there is a need for participants in later sessions, you will be given the option of signing up for one of these sessions at your convenience.

Participation is completely voluntary; you may change your mind about participating at any point during the experiment, at which point you will be given the show-up payment and what you have earned up to that point and allowed to leave. Accurate instructions pertaining to the experiment, including detailed payment information and how to participate, will be given at the beginning of the session. Should you choose to stay and participate, at the end of the experiment, you will be paid an amount in cash based on your decisions and responses as well as the decisions and responses of other participants.
